Heads Up: Macbook Pros cannot play Diablo?

Prolefeed’s Josh Weatherford and I decided that, with the recent announcement of Diablo 3, reinstalling and restarting Diablo 2 might be a fun diversion until the flood of July games are upon us.

After a harrowing experience installing the game, I was met with a bit of freezing and a couple misfires. Josh, unfortunately, could not even start the game. Before even getting to setup, the game would give him and unknown error and quit.

Heads Up: Mythos Changes Flow

The free-to-play, online only and community connected game has always been the most flexible. Advances in online technology have made patching that much easier. While many games will adjust balance, perhaps even insert new items or stages for players to explore, they very rarely respond to player suggestions in the way Flagship Studios has.

The company announced a drastic change to the flow of the game, based on feedback from players participating in the beta.

Heads Up: Metal Gear Online β Sign Up

With the release of the final chapter of the Metal Gear Saga looming over the horizon, he hype train leaves its station, intent on infecting all with the most terminal of diseases: Metal Gear fever.

While most fans are firmly focused on the release of the game itself, most multiplayer minded individuals are preparing for the beta of Metal Gear Online, the online shooter that will accompany Metal Gear Solid 4 at release. While the American and European beta sign-ups are rather selective, the Japanese sign-up is remarkably simple. All one must do is log on to the official Metal Gear Online website, use their Konami ID, and answer a simple survey.

Be warned though: Not only is sign up finished on April 17th, but those living outside of Japan looking to take this painless route will be denied. The MGO site does track IP addresses, preventing those living outside of Japan from accessing the beta.

Those living in Japan, be sure to sign up as soon as possible. As mentioned before, sign up wraps up in just 2 days. The beta begins worldwide on the 21st.

Heads Up: Make your own Ace Attorney?

gs3banner.jpg

In celebration of the new PC based episodic versions of the first three Gyakuten Saiban (逆転裁判) games, Capcom has released a freeware case editor, where players can create a case of their own and share it with friends. The editor seems to be completely fully featured, including the ability to set the correct places to ask for more information from a witness.

Heads Up: 100 Things to do with your Wii

Despite the slew of genitalia jokes poised to flood my e-mail this evening, I thought it would be a nice change of pace to post something a little different. Amy from Virtual Hosting dropped me a line about an article they just put up, about 100 things people can do with their Wii console.

Heads Up: King of Fighters XII Unveiled!

kofxiirevealheader.jpg

Hot off the show floor of AOU 2008 (an exclusively arcade platform trade show), SNK Playmore has steathily revealed King of Fighters XII via video. While Capcom, much to the chagrin of fans everywhere, decided to go for a 2.5D graphics engine for Street Fighter IV, King of Fighters XII is still entirely sprite based.

Heads Up: The HDRL MSX arrives!

msxgetbanner.jpg

With long winter breaks and family gatherings, it can be hard to indulge in one’s hobby to its nerdiest degree until the beginning of the new year. Sure, a DS game here, and a Playstation game there is enough to satiate the hunger of most gamers, but I suspect that High Dynamic Range Lying’s readers are lot like me: find geekdom in the strangest of places.

In 2006, I wrote about the MSX Association’s new redesign of the 30 year old console’s revival, in the guise of the 1 chip MSX, a consolidated machine built from the aging Altera Cyclone FPGA, but sporting modern sensibility.

Heads Up: G.A.M.E. is Independence. Inspiration. Music?

musicgamebanner.jpg

Much of HDRL’s readership knows me as a proponent and advocate of indie content. Nothing warms my heart like community creations, and nothing is more community creation than NeoGAF’s new child, G.A.M.E.

Created and mastered by a number of forum members, G.A.M.E. (short for Gaming Age Musica Electronica) is a compliation of electronic music, each track inspired by the artist’s favorite video game:

Titled G.A.M.E. (Gaming Age Musica Electronia) the project contains over two dozen tracks ranging from chiptunes to IDM to trance to experimental and everything in between, all inspired by our favorite videogames. It can be downloaded at the links below.

Heads Up: Club Nintendo Platinum Gifts for 2007

It’s that time again. It’s November around the world, and we all know what that means for Japanese Nintendo fans: Annual Platinum member gifts! What are the Platinum gifts, you ask? The platinum gift system is part of Nintendo of Japan’s online service, Club Nintendo (which I’ve talked about ad nauseum at several different times). Players enter in points gathered from purchased Nintendo games on the Club Nintendo website, and receive points to use on goods in the Club Nintendo catalogue.
