Heads Up: Mythos Changes Flow

The free-to-play, online only and community connected game has always been the most flexible. Advances in online technology have made patching that much easier. While many games will adjust balance, perhaps even insert new items or stages for players to explore, they very rarely respond to player suggestions in the way Flagship Studios has.

The company announced a drastic change to the flow of the game, based on feedback from players participating in the beta.

While the game’s dungeons will remain randomized, the regular above-ground zones have now been connected to form an open, continuous and purposefully created environment. Flagship’s site says as much:

Greenreach is now one contiguous landmass, with hills, mountains, forests, valleys, rivers, bridges, and lakes. You’ll be able to remember where things are and return to them. Instead of traveling down an ‘alley’ in a random chunk of wilderness to get to a location, you may stumble across unexpected things, or dungeons to explore. The overworld is made by hand, and as such, it is much more purposeful, with settlements, farms, outposts, and much more interesting areas. Stonehill quarry looks like a Quarry. Gussen Farm looks like an actual farm.

This kind of precedent is hopefully not the last of its kind. Overhauling entire sections of the game and changing the flow of gameplay so late in the game’s beta stage is a huge step, and evidence that Flagship does actually listen to its fans, and it’s willing to listen and consider.

This news makes Mythos that much more enticing a game to consider. Not only is the structure more like regular monthly MMORPG’s, but its still being offered as a completely free-to-play game, with paid incentives.

Did they ever lift that Mythos lockout for non-English speaking countries? The news said something about handing off the localization to a third party, but didn’t say anything about the lockout.

I got an e-mail back from Ivan Sulic at Flagship that said that in the case of certain players, they might make an exception, but I haven’t heard much since.

I’ll post when I find out something.
